DETAILED DESIGN OF MECHANICAL, STRUCTURAL, ELECTRICAL & MARINE SYSTEMS
A northeast cement producer sought to renovate a cement unloading facility which had been out of operation for approximately eight years. The design team provided mechanical, structural, electrical and marine engineering to restore the facility to proper working condition. A permanent dock was designed to moor an unloading barge on the Ohio River. A new pipeline was routed to pneumatically convey cement from barges to silos. New truck loadout equipment and access platforms were installed under the existing silos. An underwater hydrographic survey and mussel study were completed to optimize the dock mooring location on the Ohio River and achieve the requirements of the Army Corps of Engineers. Laser scanning of the existing silo area ensured that the new loadout equipment arrangement was viable underneath the existing silos.
